“Go Back Shettar” Campaign Gains Momentum in Belagavi
Belagavi: With the general elections rapidly approaching and the BJP busy preparing its second list of candidates for the remaining five seats in Karnataka, Belagavi is witnessing a surge in the “Go Back Shettar” campaign initiated by some BJP workers.
Many leaders and party members of the BJP are expressing dissatisfaction with the party’s potential decision to field former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar from Belagavi, who hails from the Dharwad district.
Sources within the BJP indicate that the party is considering nominating former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar as the candidate from the Belagavi constituency. However, local leaders are vehemently opposing his possible candidacy.
On Wednesday, some workers unfurled “Go Back Shettar” banners at prominent locations such as Chennamma Circle and Kannada Sahitya Bhavan. The campaign, which initially gained traction online, has now transitioned into offline activism as well.
Whether the party high command will take notice of this trend and decide to nominate a local candidate or proceed with fielding Shettar despite the opposition remains to be seen. Only time will tell.
